" A SPACE BECOMES INTERESTING WHEN CHARACTER MATTERS MORE THAN PERFECTION "
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
WHERE CHARACTER MEETS ELEGANCE.
SONJA JONSSON IS AN INTERIOR AND SET DESIGNER BASED IN DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY, WITH A BACKGROUND IN PRODUCT DESIGN.
Her work is driven by a fascination for how spaces make us feel, combining a cinematic eye with a strong sense for material, light, proportion and composition.
Influenced by European design heritage, Sonja creates spaces with character: Elevated but never sterile, calm but never without personality. Natural materials, tactile surfaces, vintage pieces and unexpected details shape a visual language that feels both grounded and distinct.
In a fast-moving world, she believes in creating spaces that slow us down, places that ground us, feel good to live in and are made to last beyond trends.
Her work spans INTERIOR DESIGN AND SET DESIGN, from concept and architectural planning to sourcing, custom pieces and the final styling of furniture, décor and props within the space. Depending on the project, this also includes creative site supervision, close coordination with craftspeople and technical drawings for implementation.
INFLUENCES
Her visual language draws from many chapters of European design and beyond: the quiet, chalky tones of Nordic interiors; the depth and craftsmanship of Dutch colonial pieces; the raw materiality of Mediterranean architecture; the optimism and sculptural forms of Italian Space Age design; the functional clarity of Bauhaus; and the grounded simplicity and quiet lines of Japanese design.
Rather than belonging to one era, it is the dialogue between these influences, old and new, raw and refined, restrained and expressive, that continues to shape her work.
